Dr. Richard Konteh Meets with the Scottish Finance Minister and Sierra Leonean Diaspora in Glasgow

Glasgow, Scotland – June 20, 2025 –– As part of his ongoing international engagements, Dr. Richard Konteh, former Chief of Staff and Minister of Trade and Industry under the administration of President Ernest Bai Koroma, held a high-level meeting with the Scottish Minister of Finance and members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora community in Glasgow.

In the meeting, Dr. Konteh reflected on Sierra Leone's developmental strides during his tenure in government, highlighting key achievements that positioned the country prominently on the global stage. He noted that under the leadership of former President Koroma—where he served as Deputy Minister of Finance, Minister of Trade and Industry, and later as Chief of Staff—Sierra Leone was ranked among the most peaceful countries in the world and one of the fastest growing economy in West Africa.

Speaking directly to the Scottish Minister of Finance, Dr. Konteh emphasized Sierra Leone's notable economic progress during his time in office. "As Minister of Trade and Industry, I was proud to witness Sierra Leone rise to become the sixth-ranked country in sub-Saharan Africa for ease of doing business," he stated. "Those achievements were no accident—they were the result of deliberate policies, strategic partnerships, and a vision for inclusive economic growth."

Dr. Konteh also shared his aspirations for Sierra Leone's future, reiterating his commitment to transformative leadership. "If entrusted with the leadership of the APC party in 2026, and the presidency in 2028, I intend to build on this legacy, bringing back institutional stability, fostering international collaboration, and positioning Sierra Leone once again as a rising star in Africa," he said.

The event also provided an opportunity for Sierra Leonean professionals in Scotland to engage directly with Dr. Konteh on key issues affecting the country, including governance, youth empowerment, investment, and diaspora inclusion.
